Imps midfielder Chris Cornelly has revealed he will be pushing for a first team place when he returns from his month's loan at Spalding. When he returns, City will only have 2 league games left with a potential of the 3 playoff games, however, Chris is confident he'll be back in the team soon.

Cornelly, who recently returned from injury joined Spalding on loan earlier today in a bit to help him get some much needed competitive football. His loan expires just before the home game against Darlington and hopes he will be able to do enough to win a first team place.

"The gaffer has always been up-front with me and, to be honest, it was never in doubt I was going to be offered a deal for next season," Cornelly told the Echo, "After all the time and money the club have spent getting me right, it would have been pointless to have released me when I regained fitness. The gaffer believes in me and it's a nice gesture which I fully appreciate."

"I'll be signing the new contract and hopefully I can start next season on an even keel with everyone else. I really don't think people realise just how fit the lads are at this football club. Even if you miss three days, you start to get behind - let alone almost two years. My immediate aim is to keep improving my fitness."
