Coventry Telegraph Article 3 Season 2012/13

Six wins, four defeats (One against Arsenal at the Emirates!), and two draws so far? To those that stated Robins and/or the players weren’t good enough, that’s not bad statistics, is it?

Contrast and compare Robins’ record with that of our first two managers this season – draw specialist Andy Thorn, and defeat specialist Richard Shaw!

Despite the improved results, some people still don’t seem happy with Robins’ appointment, and some were calling for his head after defeats against Notts County and Brentford. Call me harsh, but I’m not overly sure certain people should be entitled to an opinion….

And I’m not particularly bothered if (As keeps being written) Mark Robins was third choice, the cheapest option, or if his name was drawn out of a hat. He’s doing just fine so far, and I only expect him to improve our club.

The Robins’ doubters are no doubt the same people that moan that most/all of our best players are loan players, yet probably previously moaned about our lack of use of the loan market, and praised other sides for the way they used the system!

In David McGoldrick, easily the best of our loan signings, the side has a real match-winner, and he is the sort of player Coventry City’s long-suffering supporters deserve! The SISU-haters (Yawn!) are already slating the club’s owners for not signing him next January!

Worth noting, SISU won’t be responsible for the failure to sign David McGoldrick, McGoldrick him-self will be! His goal-scoring, and the fact he looks a class above most players in League One, will surely alert better placed clubs than ours?

The club might do well to tell him the story of Michael Mifsud’s career (Or lack of!) since leaving Coventry City, and see if we can scare him into staying with us!

Roy O’Donovan, reportedly being given another chance under Robins’, will certainly have to go some to fill the gap should McGoldrick leave!

Our improvement also seems to have coincided, alongside McGoldrick’s goal-scoring exploits, with Richard Wood putting his body (Mainly his face!) on the line in a bid to keep the opposition out. He seems to be making a good case to take the captain’s arm-band on a regular basis, with the sort of displays that persuaded us to sign him in the first place.

Forthcoming fixtures against Scunthorpe and Hartlepool could give us a real chance of climbing the table, and these game – games we have a tendency to lose having beaten a better side such as Crawley – will be a real test of whether Robins is properly turning things round.

With four home games between 24^th November and 8^th December the club are going to have to offer some fairly special deals to even one-third fill the ground for all of these matches, else that’s going to be a lot of money needed to be found just before Christmas.

Returning to the matter of all things anti-SISU, has anybody heard from our saviour Gary Hoffman recently? Thought not….
