Coventry City's Pre-season....

Rain, more rain, Greek farce, goal-scoring new-boys, and indifferent displays!

v Nuneaton Town : 0-1 (L) Abandoned. This match lasted fifty-one minutes before the heavens opened, with the referee calling a halt to proceedings. Game will be remembered for the crass Tweet from the unprofessional in charge of the club's official Twitter page, which caused a flood of complaints (No pun .... made).

"Everybody has got to understand that performances like that aren't acceptable at this club whatever the circumstances or the time of year" - Steven Pressley.

v AS Roma B : 2-0 (W). Shaun Miller and Danny Pugh both opened their goal-scoring accounts for Coventry City (The latter already with a better scoring record than the player he replaced, Blair Adams), in another game played in torrential rain and lightning! At the other end of the pitch, Allsop made a few decent saves to keep the Italian side out.

"I thought we were excellent in all the aspects that I talk about. All I wanted to see was our pressing football and I thought we were brilliant out there" - Steven Pressley.

v Chievo : 0-3 (L). All three goals were scored inside the first thirty-three minutes, two thanks to mistakes from Seaborne (Who gave the Italian side a third gift inside the first half-an-hour too), as the Serie A side cruised to victory. Danny Pugh missed a penalty, and the chance of a consolation goal.

"There were a couple of moments where we have to do better in terms of bread and butter defending" - Steven Pressley.

v FC Kellini : 0-0 (D). A farcical game, ruined by a referee clearly out of his depth, that saw Danny Pugh sent off for being punched, and Billy Daniels sent off for 'being the next person to make a challenge'. Webster, Tudgay, and Maddison came in for some severely over-the-top treatment from the Greek cloggers.

"I was really pleased with the application and work-rate, and keeping another clean sheet, which is two from three games" - Steven Pressley.

v Newport : 0-1 (L). Ismail Yakubu's goal was enough to see Coventry City go down to a defeat, with Steven Pressley fairly pleased with the 3-5-2 system he opted to play (Possibly the 'Plan B' he claims the team lacked last season!). Miller almost equalised on the stroke of half-time, but ran out of pitch after beating the keeper.

"We are a bit behind schedule" - Steven Pressley.

v Watford : 1-0 (W). Marcus Tudgay scored his first Coventry City goal, alleviating some of the fears of supporters, who were worried the side might not score at all this season now Callum Wilson has left. Plenty of other chances were created, with Coventry more often the better of the two sides, as they recorded a decent pre-season victory.

"I've made it quite clear what I expect and tonight I got it. We had intensity, we were pushing the lines exactly the way I wanted" - Steven Pressley.

v Bristol Rovers : 2-1 (W). Trailing to a Taylor goal (Thanks to an assist by Rovers fan Billy Daniels!), a quality goal from Swanson, and a set piece goal from Phillips (From a Haynes corner), saw Coventry City to another pre-season win.

"I was really pleased with them tonight, and if I was a Coventry City supporter I would be very excited at what we saw tonight" - Steven Pressley.

v Stevenage : 1-2 (L). Marcus Tudgay scored his second goal of pre-season, but Coventry City fell to defeat after conceding two penalties in seven minutes - Johnson conceding the first, while Clarke was unlucky to concede the second. Youngster Devon Kelly-Evans started the match at right wing-back, and won deserved praise from his manager.

"There was a lack of fluency and at times a lack of urgency today which was really disappointing" - Steven Pressley.
