Darren not going to Swansea

Smith has also said that he would not be interested in selling Darren if any offer came for the captain.

"There is always going to be speculation. That's one of the interesting bits within football," Smith told BBC Sport.

Swansea director of football Brian Flynn signed Ferguson in 1999 at his time at the Racecourse.

Flynn is looking for an experienced midfielder and Ferguson would certainly fit the bill.

But manager Denis Smith insisted Wrexham had not received any enquires about Ferguson's availability from Swansea.

"I talk to Brian about a variety of things," he said. "Why shouldn't we? But there is contact with a variety of clubs but that doesn't mean the players are going anywhere."

He added: "I was told before Christmas that Carlos Edwards was definitely going this month. But he's still here.

"People can make up want they want and get a denial to make another story out of it."

Smith said a transfer fee for any of his players would ease the financial strain on the club, but would not allow him to dip into the transfer market to strengthen his squad.

"We've got long term debts we're starting to work our way through," he said.

"If Swansea have got enough money to start making offers then that's interesting.

"There are not too many clubs around with money to make offers for players."

So will Darren join Lee Trundle and Karl Connolly down South Wales with Brian Flynn?  I very much doubt it and I'm sure Darren will sign a new contract to stay at the Racecourse for another season at least.
