I despise Manchester United. I hate Derby, too...

Football would be nothing without rivalry. But why do we all hate the team we're supposed too when we have more reason to despise another?

Following on from the article written to explain just why we love the Beautiful Game, I've decided to dig a little deeper to find out just why teams hate each other so much. I hate Derby, and I'm a Forest supporter. I've been brought up to feel intense hatred for the Rams- I've never been told why I hate them, just that I do. As in any article that I write I needed to back up everything with a few quotes. Today's quotes come from Tyne Talk's Matthew Long. "I hate Hartlepool because... Well, they are our (Darlington's) local rivals aint they - do I need another reason?! A Darlington/Hartlepool game is always full of rivalry on (and I suppose off) the field. They have always been a better side than us, and their fans love nothing more than to come onto our board and gloat about how they are better than us and that we are going down and going bust. We certainly showed them in the 99/00 season however, defeating them both home and away in the play-offs! It was not to be though, Darlington stayed in Division Three and a few years later, the 'monkey-hanging' Poolie's won promotion to Division Two." So the reasoning from this guy is that it's a local thing. Fair enough. But shouldn't it be that people from one area unite to fight against another? Seems not to go like that- O can't imagine Forest and Derby uniting! Thing is though, I seem to hate teams such as Manchester United and Real Madrid even more! They have so many glory supporters, most of the supporters have never been to this area! I don't like that. Why don't they support the team from the area in which they live? Glory supporters, they are. I have more respect for sheep than those people or ones which change their teams! Rivalry is part of the game, but it can lead to several negative things such a violence and racism. Derby day was once a joyful affair, and normally is. Just cut such idiots out and we'd have a perfect game. Why do you love the beautiful game?
