Your Orient memories, updated on the 25th anniversary of The Orient Game. Send yours to orientmemories@burnleyfc.com An afternoon of nervous frustration, I was sitting on a sand bank in the middle of the Congo river between Congo Kinshasa (then Zaire) and Congo Brazzaville, glued to my portable radio and the commentary of the Orient game.

On Saturdays there is no-one apart from fishermen on the river, which at Stanley Pool which is 19 kilometres wide, with a densely forested Bamu Island in the middle, in the middle of a spectacular nowhere

The game was unbearably difficult to endure. I was transfixed, unaware that with the late kick off because of crowd congestion, I would not hear the final result. At 5pm the match commentary was cut off.
