Danny Ings--I'm Happy At Burnley

By Burnley FC
July 16 2014

Striker committed to Clarets Premier League challenge Danny Ings insists he is 100% committed to helping the Clarets in their Premier League challenge.

The England U21 international has been the subject of widespread speculation as he enters the final year of his four-year deal at Turf Moor.

But Ings is adamant he is happy and not looking to leave, as the club prepare to embark on their top-flight adventure in just one-month’s time.

Last season’s 26-goal top scorer told Clarets Player:

“I don’t understand why it has have gone crazy on social media and the like. I signed a four-year contract when I came here and obviously I still have a year left. I don’t feel there should be any panic. I am just enjoying my football and going into my last year of my contract. As far as I am concerned, Burnley Football Club and the Premier League is where I am, 100%.  Everybody knows I enjoy playing for Burnley Football Club. It’s a fantastic family club and I am not looking to leave.”

Maybe people will now believe what the guy says and move on. I for one believe the lad certainly for this coming season.

I think that is everybodies fear FC, he simply runs his contract down and walks for free.

In the end if he plays like last season then he's been good value over the 4 years

The compo is usually fk all in the grand scheme though isnt it.
Would be nice if signed an extension/new contract, just so we know that when he does go, we'll get what he's worth.
Glad he's happy here.

Dear Danny,

Charity begins at home. You have been magnificent for Burnley and its fans and those in need locally. No doubt you will remember how BFC and its fans stuck by you and kept the faith during your injury just like they will with Vokesy. Now is your chance to give this little minnow of a club a huge charitable favour just by signing a new contract so that if and when you decide to move on the club too will benefit financially from your wonderful service. Then persuade your boss to do the same!

rovers got £5M compo for Hoilett, and city got £6M for sturridge so could get a similar figure. It onlt goes to tribunal if clubs can't agree a fee.

An intelligent lad mature beyond his years and my bones make me wonder if he does fancy a change of scenery but wants to repay BFC with this year in the Prem.

Vulnerable though... signing some sort of extension at BFC with get out clauses gives him security in the event of a bad injury.

Really Bad long-term injury during this final year and who will want to sign him... and his knees aren't in the best of shape are they?

Perhaps he needs me as his agent.

No doubt this'll all kick off again in January, when our league position might have some bearing on the outcome.

I would try to sell him now and getb what we can and put that towards the £10M ish for Deeney.

He is not going to sign and will leave us next Summer...thats not the worst thing though (the lack of sale money)...the worst thing is his form could slump, goals dry up etc and fans WILL start to turn on him, certainly a percentage anyway.

Were all in this together....but if he isnt signing (which he is 100% in his right to) then we must sell him.

I appreciate we CANT make him leave in a sale, he could just say no to any fee we agree with someone and stay here on his £7K a week...as he is under contract (and will have been advised to do that).

SO, I would play hardball back, as he currently holds all the cards. I would say "If youre not gonna sign at least a 12 month EXTENTION on triple your current salary in the next week, we will buy Deeney for £10M and sell you for whatever bids come in and if you refuse to be sold then thats your problem but you WILL NOT be in our 18 again so good luck training with the kids".

Im not being tight on him, I like him and want him to stay...but if he wont sign a longer deal in the next week or so then we should buy Deeney and either sell Ings or let him rot in the reserves until the Jan window when he may be willing to be sold.

ALL IN THIS TOGETHER - THE SUM OFF ALL PARTS IS GREATER TO ANY ONE!

i don't see the problem here.

he's just keeping his options open. we'll get decent enough money for him either way so i'd rather he just focuses on playing well for us.

wouldn't try flogging him now as we'll look desperate to sell and certainly wouldn't leave him in the reserves, that doesn't help us or him.

We could do that MH, but we won't. I'm fairly sure it'll happen like I said, it'll all go quiet until January and then it'll resurface. They like nothing better than to kick problems into the long grass and hope they go away. But they never do go away do they, sooner or later you have to face them, we just prefer to face them later.

Fans will turn on him, the shouts will come "Oh pulling out of tackles are we Danny" and the whole togetherness starts to unravel - thats what the fuss is.

He is supposedly on £7K a week and our top end is 'apparently' £20K a week - so I would offer him top earner terms of £21K a week (tripling his salary) on a two year deal with little, or no clauses (maybe a £12M release clause).

If he didnt sign within a week then I would actively try to sell him for whatever we can get just to get him out of the place and put that towards Deeney (or buy Deeney and have spare if sold for a big fee).

If he wont sign and wont agree to be sold then we sign Deeney anyway, break the bank, and leave him out of the 18 until he either signs a deal (on less that what we offered before) or he agrees to be sold on January.

We are playing this like he holds all the cards....we dont have to play like that...play like ive said (and have some pride in what we are) and its WE that hold all the cards.

Sign up or ship out Danny...either will do but dont play us for mugs cause the snipers in the stands will be around...waiting.

If he leaves for nothing next summer he goes with my blessing. He was a big part of earning us around £100,000,000, and could earn us God knows how many more millions by keeping us up, then leaving.

He can do what he likes for me, he should be given the freedom of the town.

It's a shame but he's entitled to deal with his contract however he sees fit, and that includes walking away for a tribunal set fee next summer.

Yes he's entitled to do what he wants, and fair play to him, I've NO digs at him.

I've said he can do what he wants and that's fair to him but we should be showing that we hold all the cards here.

1 Sign a deal tripling your salary.
2 Agree to be sold and get an even bigger wage.
3 We sign Deeney and you are omitted from the 18 and we can re-visit it all in January.

So what's it to be? 1, 2 or 3?

Guarantee it won't be be option 3 he picks thus we get what we want.

Ings is just one part of BFC and we hold all the cards here.

You might find any attempt at 3 would lead you into serious legal issues. Also what exactly is he being punished for.

He wants to play, is willing to give his all - as LC says, do what he wants for me. I've no doubt we will see the same effort regardless of what his contract situation is.

There would be o legal action with option 3, he just simply wouldnt be selected for the 18 out of the 25 players we have because we would already have 5 strikers under contract for 3 years a piece therefore they would be ahead in the pecking order looking long-term.

Being punished? Who says that would be punishing him? Its business mate and about team morale. He is doing what is best for him - 100% in his right to do so and we should do what is right for us, both as a business and as a TEAM.
1 Sign up.
2 Be sold.
3 Or dont be part of the TEAM, get Deeney instead then see in January if he id up for option 2 before his career is ruined further.

Said this before, Ings holds all the cards here, not Burnley.
Players have had the power since this rule came in.

He's our best player, we know it, Dyche knows it and he knows it.
There is no chance we'd drop our best player, our only option is to play him.

I'd rather get a year out of Danny than pay (and risk) 10 million for an ex-con who may (or may not) prove to be a Premier quality striker. At the end of the season the books will be in balance - we might have lost 10 million we never had but we will not have spent 10 million we might not have needed to spend. And if we are still up we can still afford ten million if Danny ain't signed up.

No they won't, all Burnley fans know we can't keep him long term and any contract extension will simply be a bonus. When he goes it'll be on good terms with the fans, no one will hold it against him, it's just the way it is.

Please don't make me say I told you so, BC.

We need to do what's right for BFC anyway, no room for sentiment cause people like Ings don't care about us (when is all said and done) and the Club doesn't care about the players.

We hold all the cards if we play hardball. He would have a choice for signing and becoming our top earner by trebling his wages and becoming even more of a hero here, being sold so that Burnley get a decent fee and he gets a bigger club and an even bigger salary or carry on as he is and he sits it out until January as we would have 5 other strikers (4 of which are fit) committed to 3 years plus and are therefore our major concern.

No problem If you prove me wrong MH, I'm wrong about something at least once a day, ask Mrs BC.

I just can't see this resurfacing before January when Ing's agent will have a look at the league table and advise his client accordingly. Whatever happens I just can't imagine Burnley fans turning on him, we know the score, and Danny has far too much credit in the bank with our fans for any problems if/when he leaves.

I don't.

I think he's as good as we can get for £8M or so and if we can sell a striker who openly says he will run his contract down with us for some Dollar to put towards that then all the better.
