Burnley 1 Middlesbrough 1

By Burnley FC
April 19 2016

Michael Keane fired home a dramatic stoppage time equaliser to preserve Burnley's four-month unbeaten run and a top two spot.A Jordan Rhodes goal 21 minutes from time looked to have settled a frantic encounter for the visitors, who had scored injury time winners in three of their previous six games.

But the boot was on the other foot as, following a sustained late spell of pressure, Keane stabbed home Matty Taylor’s corner in the 92nd minute to extend their unbeaten run to 20 games and send Turf Moor into meltdown.

Brighton’s win over QPR edged the south coast side level on points with Sean Dyche’s men, with both teams just two shy of Boro.

But with the Clarets still second on goal difference with just three games remaining, the promotion race now seems certain to go right to the wire.

Burnley were unchanged from the side that sealed back-to-back wins with the weekend win at Birmingham.

However, a knock to defender James Tarkowski, who played a vital late role at St Andrew’s, led to a recall to the bench for Michael Duff.

We expected a tasty tussle and Grant Leadbitter lit the fuse within 60 seconds with a crunching late challenge on Joey Barton that earned the Boro skipper a yellow card.

Three quick corners for the hosts soon ramped up the atmosphere another notch, but it was Boro who came close to breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute.

Stewart Downing’s deep corner was only half cleared to Albert Adomah, whose fierce rising effort clipped the top of the crossbar.

Wasn't Mike Jones OK last time he reffed one of our games ? Huge game for sure.....my twopenneth,If Dyer starts or plays a full half and does what I think he can then Gray will fly into them same way Vardi does and Barnes will make a major contribution linking it.WE need this or something like it that is unpredictable.

There is one poster who will massively disagree with that, but the vast majority of us Burnley fans will certainly welcome it.

My prediction, as long as Boro do what most other teams have been doing all season, which is failing to put the couple of easy chances they will get into the net, we'll be fine, we'll have the three points.

That bloody Jordan Rhodes though, so many strikers have come back to haunt us, he could be another, I'll be a bit twitchy every time he gets the ball in our box.

BON - I think you could be right about Jones' last game he reffed us.
Dyer is never going to start, but if we do happen to fall behind i hope he's given enough time on as a sub to affect the game.

Not too fussed about Rhodes me. Its that cnut Nugent that i'll be worried about if he gets time on the pitch.

Bloody hell Fred, I'd forgotten about Nugent. That's it then, I won't sleep a wink tonight.

Versus Barnes and Gray... no contest

It's definitely not a game for Dyer.

Unless we are two down I wouldn't expect him to get on the pitch at all.

Rhodes' goals per game record speaks for itself, it's even better than Gray's. And Nugent, has he ever failed to score against us ?

Those two on the pitch is the nightmare scenario for us. If at least one of them doesn't score I'll show my **** in Burton's window......probably.

Thing is it won't be Barnes and Gray versus Rhodes and Nugent.I will be Keane and Mee versus Rhodes and Nugent.😃

If we are two down it would be a bit rich expecting Dyer to save the day.Just to upset you a bit more BC,it was a great cross from Nugent I believe who provided for Rhodes second and winner in their last game.We need to relax and play in our old way of swift movement and be very mobile. To do that we need to win the midfield battle in the middle of the park not constantly just outside our own box.

will settle for that - though too tight imo - and thought best for one sub at half time or 'early' second.

Well done - still in there winking smiley

So...Brighton should be putting 7 away at Charlton - being that they've gotten 9 goals from the last two games, against other 'decent teams'....from the south.

Cheers.

Ridiculous time wasting and even more bizarre late return for the second half aside a decent game to watch

yep - a gutless approach.

From what I read - QPR were playing ok until Brighton scored and 'Kept on the pressure'..then QPR folded, was likely the same against Fulham, they stamped their authority on the game, and against sides with no more to gain, it'll be a walk over.
If Boro show the same weakness in the remaining games, it's the playoffs for them.

Cheers.

And now all I'm hearing is their manger whining about how we play. Weak is the word. Would love to consign them to the play offs.

You can see why they're up there though, a very competent team, hard to break down, with a striker who scores for fun. They've also somehow got their season back on track, for which they deserve some credit, they seemed to be in meltdown a few months ago.

The timewasting, cheating, cynicism, moaning, it's par for the course now isn't it, were Boro worse than any other team would have been in that situation ? I watch a lot of non-league football and it's just the same 8 levels down, if a team's winning you know who's going to be substituted by the way that player suddenly drifts to the far side of the pitch, ensuring a long slow walk back across the pitch to the bench. It's just football, just how the game is, at every level it seems.
