It has been an interesting day for Burnley fans this Tuesday, with Manager Steve Cotterill speaking about some of the rumours flying around and with former clarets looking to their own future's. Read all about it here!

Cotterill discusses rumours:

Steve Cotterill told the Burnley Express today that he had hoped to sign former Sunderland defender Phil Babb, until the 33 year old had a last minute change of heart and decided to retire. "I was talking to Phil at the weekend, but it is my understanding he will retire."

Cotteril also admitted he had no idea where speculation about Chris Eagles and Gary Flitcroft came from, suggesting rightly he does not do his business in the press, but he admitted Flitcroft was a player he would happily have at Burnley. "I would love to have Gary Flitcroft to be honest. I don't know where the link came from - and it certainly hasn't come from us - but he would be absolutely fantastic for us...We will just have to monitor the situation and see if anything sufaces."

Blake delighted with captaincy:

Robbie Blake has admitted his delight at being made new Burnley captain, speaking to the official website Blake said: "When the gaffer told me about it, I was made up really and hopefully I can do a good job for the team now." Top scorer last season, Blake admitted he loved scoring goals, but that the team comes first. "The forwards can't score goals without the players behind them doing a good job and it really is a team effort...There is a lot of responsibility in the job and I'm confident I can go out there and help the team as captain."

Yates - Possible player?

In a recarnation of an older story, Planetfootball.com is today reporting that Mark Yates may be registered as a player for next season, to bulk up manager Steve Cotterill's numbers. Although Yates said he expected to do nothing more than play for the reserves, speculation has been rife, expecially after he slotted a goal in against Accrington Stanley in the local friendly. David May on trial at Stanley:

The Longside believes that former claret David May, may be one of the former Premiership players on trial at Accrington Stanley. May, who would like to stay local, had admitted he considered retiring after being released by Burnley. Although Accrington are rapidly improving and have now turned profession, it does seem that David May could and should be able to get a place at a higher league team - especially as he admitted money is no longer a problem. We will keep you updated.

Former Claret Paul Smith told he can move on:

Former clarets winger Paul Smith has been told by Sheffied Wednesday Manager Chris Turner that he can find a new club and move on a free transfer. Turner, who has brought in 10 new faces this summer has said that he already has two left wingers who would get a game before Smith.

"We've got three wide left players with Chris Blunt and Richard Evans and I couldn't bring all three to Ibiza. But I have made a decision that Paul will be allowed to move on to another football club if the opportunity arises." (SWFC official site)
