Wigan 3-1 Chelsea: Lack of Respect Shown to Wigan & the Fans

Never a Red Card

Boss 'Anco' said after Chelsea's crushing 3-1 defeat to Wigan at the DW Stadium, "I don't know why we lost." Well how about this then 'Anco.' We lost because certain players namely Mikel and Malouda showed a lethargic mentality and had the attitude of 'lets turn up boys, the points are in the bag.'

It didn't help having Petr Cech sent off minutes after Didier equalised, scoring his 100th goal for Chelsea in the process.

I felt referee Phil Dowd got his red card out too quick, quicker than a greyhound out of the race trap, and to be honest the sending off was rather harsh.

Rodallega was going away from goal when contact was made and the ball was travelling away from goal and there were covering players behind Cech had Rodallega stayed on his feet.

I have got no problems with the penalty being awarded, after all you can't get away with it two weeks on the trot!!

Another aspect of Chelsea's poor performance yesterday was the shocking defending especially for Wigan's 1st goal scored by Bramble on 16 minutes. Where on earth was the marking? Bramble had more space than the Atlantic Ocean as he powered home a header past a stranded Cech.

Was it only me who noticed from the corner that the ball wasn't in the quadrant? In fact Wigan got away with it twice during the first-half and Wigan could have scored again.

Let's give Wigan credit where credit is due. Prior to yesterday, Wigan hadn't won against one of the top four in 34 matches - losing 30 and drawing 4 and already this season they had suffered at the hands of ManUre and Corporate City - 5-0, 4-0 respectively, so someone this week had done their homework and I am sorry to say it wasn't our boss, 'Anco.'

JT apparently gave his team mates the hair dryer after this embarrassing defeat he said,

“When you go to places like Wigan, you’ve got to match them — match their workrate, match their effort, win your headers, win your tackles — and we simply didn’t do that in the first half,” he said. “You can go anywhere in the world and not play well, but the least we expect from every player is that we work hard and fight. We didn’t do that today — the whole team collectively. That’s the most disappointing thing of all.

“All the other big sides in and around us have had emphatic wins, so it’s disappointing that we’ve thrown away three points. The manager has stressed that and the players feel that. You can’t come to places like this, when they’ve got their crowd right behind them, and not match their work ethic. We didn’t win our headers or our tackles and that’s simply not good enough. That’s the minimum we ask for.

and quite right too!! I watched the whole game again yesterday on CTV and it was worse than the first time I watched it.

Not only was the performance a disgrace, the performance was an insult to the fans who travelled up!!!

Apoel won't be easy on Weds night, after they did hold Atletico to a 0-0 draw in their first CL game and as for Liverpool on Sunday.....

OH THE GLORIOUS UNPREDICTABILITY

Your right it wont be an easy ride even though some local bookies think so and made us odds on.
Chelsea really need to put in a good performance and win well to give them the confidence to face Liverpool on Sunday.
I`m sure it will come good on Wednesday and also against Liverpool on Sunday with a fully rested Drogba rearing to go we will be back to winning ways,he says under his breath.
