'Tis the Season to be Jolly

Christmas. Goodwill to all men and the time for giving. Chelsea head into the Christmas programme, top of the league and five points clear of second place Arsenal.
With games against Aston Villa (h) on Boxing Day, Portsmouth (a) two days later, Liverpool (a) on New Years Day and finally Middlesbrough at home on Jan 4th (welcome back JFH and Zenden) I expect Chelsea to have amassed at least ten points, if not the whole twelve. But with Christmas pasts, many many horror shows have unfolded, and Chelsea have become a registered charity on many many occasions (helping out others in need), I have done my research and can't quite find a registered charity number - does that mean that Chelsea are guilty of fraud. This Christmas and New Year period will be the most significant period under the leadership, tenureship of Jose Mourinho. Whereas the rest of Europe virtually shuts down their football leagues, anything from 10 days to 20 days, our leagues will press on like the hardy troopers they are. The British public would not have it any other way. This period of the season. Four games in nine days, will be the first time that JM has had to work, first time that many of the squad would have had to work and play football. First time that many of the squad have been away from their families at Christmas and New Year. JM has even ordered Xmas Eve and Xmas Day training before the first of the four games against the Villa on Boxing Day. This Christmas and New Year period WILL be the sternest test that JM, the squad and the fans will face. One defeat in eighteen Premiership games, top of the table and really really enjoying the renaissance that is happening at Stamford Bridge down the Fulham Road. Of course we have been in this position before on lots of occasions. Sitting nicely in the table pre-Christmas. Christmas comes along, then bang. All the good work goes straight out of the window then its a struggle to regain the form and points post-Christmas. Glorious Unpredictability. But isn't that what Chelsea have been in the past. Hopefully JM and his unified team will lay this Christmas ghost once and for all. Glorious Unpredictability. I don't care how confident JM and the players are. I don't care that JM reportedly said that the title will be won by April, for me and a whole heap of Chelsea fans I know, we are entering the twitchy, squeezy bum stage. Simply because we have been there before. Show all the promise and fail to deliver. Flatter to deceive and all that. Whatever adjectives you want to use. Use them because Chelsea have done it to us before on so many occasions. Chelsea can give us all the other trophies that they want and we will take them, no arguments there. The one trophy that us the fans want, is the League title. The one trophy that has eluded us for 50 years and at the moment we are in a fantastic position to win it. So please Chelsea don't let us down. Remember. Christmas is the season for giving. The season to be jolly. Give the fans the best present you can. Don't throw it all away. CAREFREE!
