Chelsea forced to cancel tournament.

This year sees the start of Chelsea's Centenary celebrations of which one of the planned events had to be scrapped today thanks to the police and local authorities of Hammersmith, Kensington and Chelsea.

Chelsea had hoped to stage a 'London' Cup - a four team tournament - involving Arsenal, Tottenham, Fulham and of course Chelsea. The event was due to be staged on the weekend of 30/31 July.

The police and the local authorities were concerned about potential public disorder and disruption around the days of the tournament, which is amazing actually considering both Arsenal and Fulham still have to visit Stamford Bridge in the coming months for Premiership games. (Are the authorities going to try and cancel these?)

The idea of this tournament was to re-enact the prestigious London Seniors Cup which was played for 100 years ago. Chelsea hope to still stage a number of high profile fixtures during the coming year, notably with Real Madrid and Boca Juniors and others.

Jose Mourinho is considering another pre-season tour of America, which is quite strange as he completely disagreed with this year's pre-season tour, although accepting quite reluctantly that the tour was arranged before he came to Chelsea as manager and our beloved leader, who looks well on the way to delivering Chelsea's 1st Championship title in 50 years. How apt it would be if John Terry lifted the trophy almost 50 years to the day that Roy Bentley did.
