When Chelsea's team was announced I felt that all my Xmas's had come together. Lampard back, Joe Cole, Robben and Duff all in the same line-up.
But what a let down and what a way to come down from an expectant all day high. I can only wonder that falling out of an aircraft and thundering to the ground without a parachute comes closest. Chelsea were damp. Not brave like a warrior in battle as they should have been and could have been, and I firmly believe that 'The Special One' dropped a major one by picking Drogba instead of Crespo. Reminds me of another certain Chelsea manager not too long ago in Monaco..... hmhmhmhmhmhmhmh!!!! Throughout the whole ninety minutes, only two worthwhile chances on goal with the line-up that JM selected. Robben's shot in the first-half when he remembered that he CAN cut in from the left and shoot with his right. Then in the second-half from a cute Joe Cole cross, Crespo just puts one wide with the scores still level at 0-0. I shuddered when I saw Drogba's name on the team-sheet. As it proved my shuddering was proved to be correct. All Drogba did was give unecessary fouls away (although having said that, had the game been ref'd by an English referee, he might have got away with most of them). Even 'The Claude' was penalised more in this game then he has been all season!!!! What does that say about continental refs then? Twelve minutes from time, Ronaldinho after his one man show of tricks and flicks, broke Chelsea's hearts with a shot from the edge of the area that beat Cech with its pace and swerve. Even Ronaldinho had the 'cheek' to bounce off Mr Chelsea himself, John Terry before letting fly. And it was my Man of the Match, John Terry who got forward right at the end to win a penalty that really never was, allowing Super Frank who was restricted in his position all night, his only shot on goal giving Chelsea the equaliser. So Chelsea are out, losing 3-2 on aggregate and it is quite right to point out that Barca in the last four games HAVE not beaten Chelsea, 11 v 11. So anyone fancy a League and Cup Double then? COME ON CHELSEA!! 40 YEARS A BLUE!
