Rovers Snatch a Win at the Death

Despite Millwall having the better of the chances at the New Den, Rovers claimed the three points for the first time since Cheltenham at home in December. Antony Kay headed Paul McLaren free kick in with three minutes left. The Rovers defence performed solidly and Danny Coyne was immense in goal.

There was one change from the line up against Hereford as Captain Ian Goodison replaced Ben Chorley after he had served his four match ban.

Jay Simpson and Gary Alexander were both denied within the opening minutes by Danny Coyne and Antony Kay respectively.

After 21 minutes it looked to be 1-0 to Rovers as Myrie-Williams's shot was only parried and Calvin Zola pounced but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Gareth Taylor then tested Pidgley with a header and at the other end Andy Taylor and Danny Coyne were busy breaking up Millwall attacks as a lively and entertaining first half ended goal-less.

HALF-TIME: Millwall 0-0 Tranmere

As the second half began, Millwall fans got behind their team from kick off as Coyne saved again from Alexander.

Adrian Forbes effort was then kept out by Coyne and Robinson headed over as the pressure on the Rovers goal became almost relentless. 

Craig Curran then replaced Calvin Zola with twenty minutes left but Harris came closest moments later volleying at Danny Coyne.

Mike Jones replaced Sherriff and soon after Jennings was replaced by Mullin as a re-shuffle was hoped to put some pressure on the Millwall goal.

It worked too because with just three minutes left Rovers earnt the win when Antony Kay headed in a Paul McLaren free kick and Rovers had nicked it late on.

It was a fantastic result and ended our run without a win.  Also it was our first away win since mid-October when we beat Southend United 2-1

Man of the Match

Danny Coyne: Please correct me if im wrong as I wasn't at the game, but it sounded like Danny Coyne was outstanding in goal, keeping us in the game on numerous occasions.

EDITOR'S NOTE - Agreed, Coyne was fantastic and a deserved and clear Winner of the Award for this game!

sounds like we got battered but the stats say otherwise..

Looking back on it, we didn't get battered, although I said so after the game. They were however the better side in the second half and deserved the win. Coyne made some great saves though and they never took their chances, we got one very good chance in the second half and scored.
