Tranmere were handed a Wembley lifeline this evening after Accrington Stanley finally admitted responsibility for fielding an ineligible player during the 1-1 draw and penalty shoot-out win over Rovers in the previous round, meaning that it will be Les Parry's Tranmere who now host Stockport County in the next few weeks.
Accrington player Ray Putterill, who scored Stanley's goal in the 1-1 draw at Prenton Park was supposed to have just started a County ban when he lined up to face Rovers and whilst at first both the player and the Club protested their innocence, it is now thought that someone, possibly the player himself, has owned up to knowing of the ban meaning Accrington's expulsion from the competition and Rovers' re-instatement.
A Trip to Bury beckons if Rovers can overcome Stockport in the JP Trophy
Whoever wins the game between Rovers and Stockport will face Bury away in the Area Quarter Final following the draw last weekend and possibly Rovers best chance of getting to Wembley is still alive.

This is only a rumour but the game is to be a Monday night and it has to be played by the last week of October so will probably a week on Monday (25th) if that was the case?
It is a distraction. No money in the competition,littele hope of a final place and every prospect of injuries and suspensions that we can ill afford. Can Tranmere appeal against the judgement!
Why do we have little hope of a final place? And yes there is value in it. Money may not be great but it's still money. It's a chance of getting to Wembley, why are so many fans so against it?
