Shrewsbury Town v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine August 24 2012
If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......
For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.
Tranmere of course, make the trip to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

Thought we were lucky to scrape a draw today. It looked like a rerun of the Bury game. Large away support, outplayed and point-less. We surrendered the midfield and Richards ran the show for them. Thank God for Fonners, he kept us in the game with some great saves behind a dodgy defence. The marking for their goal was abysmal. I thought Thompson had a very poor game and it was only the introduction of Bags that woke the team up. Still, it's good to get a point against a solid side.
I've got to say and this isn't a moan, that sometimes we need to change our midfield depending on the opponents. I think that Palmer can be a bit of a lightweight, as good a player as he is he does shy out out of tackles. In games like that, I'd throw Harrison in there, just to add a bit of beef to the midfield.
I also agree about Thompson. The lad looks like he has bags of potential with a great cross, but he doesn't seem to get into games as much as he should. As for our defending, its been suspect throughout pre season but it's now very inexperienced with two very young lads in there.
However a point is a good result away from home and it will give us some confidence going to Villa on Tuesday which could be a very interesting game considering they haven't won a game yet!!
Shrewsbury played very well and should have no difficulty staying up. Grandison showed that he would have been a good signing for us when we had him on loan but Richards was by far the best player on the pitch in the first half-what a good left foot he has.
Shrewsbury played very well and had their tactics spot on. we were fortunate to get a point.
Sometimes you need to be different, away, especially the way we didn't turn up for the first half.
A big criticism of Les was he had a game plan and stuck to it regardless. Hopefully Ronnie remembers that you can have a plan B or even a plan C!
I think the way Tranmere improved their game mroe in the second half shows that had they got off to that kind of start, they would have probably gotten more chances and gotten 3 points.
They deserved a point based on the second half I think, but they needed to be sharper for all 3.
I thikn the Villa game will sharpen them up somewhat and if the prospect of a slightly out of form Colchester at the weekend, doesn't get the players up for a game what will?
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Personally, I think the 'aston villa next'crept into players' minds. So to get a draw against a team that has not lost at home for 33 or so games, and to do it from behind, is positive.
Realistically, there will be a number of below par games in a season. I think that statistically, win 2 draw 1 lose 1 pattern gets near promotion, so let us see where we are in 12 games . I will be more than happy with 6-3-3 situation. Or 21 points. And we will lose games. Fact.
6-3-3, isn't that an illegal tactic, or is that what Peter Reid thought Tranmere were trying to play, in that Sunderland cup game, when there was a mix up about Stephen Frails substitution .

We were poor for the majority of the game on Saturday. Passes going astray, slow tempo etc. I think the point about Wallace being below par and so affecting the rest of the team is a good one as well.
Thompson has to be dropped now for me. Doesen't do nearly enough to warrant starting every game. He is scared to run at defenders, and goes missing for large periods. Bell Baggie to come in I think.
Still, we showed character and pushed on for the equaliser. Now on to Villa.
