A good addiition to the squad I think

Anyone who has scored against Chester gets the big thumbs up from me! Joking aside looks quite a handful, big, strong and powerful. GB must realise we are lacking firepower up front and has done something about it quickly. Look forward to seeing him playing tomorrow maybe?

Grimsby wanted him on loan so better we have him

That's why we've brought him in. GB is clearly worried by our ability to cope with physical defences. I think those hoping for neat passing football might be in for a disappointment.

Gives us the strength we need, do we expect Cole to go out on loan or is this cover whilst Norwood recovers from injury set back?

Another one-month loan forward. Thank god. It's been like, months since the last one. I was already getting sick of seeing the same faces in a rovers shirt every match.

Good one Nobbly, I only hope we don't go back to hoofing it up to the big man. I would like to see the Margetts/Mangan partnership give chance to develop.

Every team we have played have had one massive centre half that gobbles up all the high balls that are around their area.

This signing is obviously to combat that and win our share of headers.

Hopefully this means Stockton's contribution is reduced. He cant win a header, but that is mainly due to the fact he will never actually challenge for one!

Maybe Stockton is going out on loan?

You never know. He could do with a new lease of life and get his confidence back. Cant be good when everyone is calling you garbage 5 mins into the first game of the season

I agree with Kennel that i would like to see Margetts/Mangan partnership but that wont be a plan in every game. There will be games when you want a big cart horse up front. Whether we like it or not

This is not against you Kennel as you make a valid point about M&M, but some fans honestly think we will walk this league with pretty football. If the first 4 games are anything to go by, this will be a bruiser of a league which we will need to stand up to

this lad has also spent time playing on the wings aswell, and maynard looked out of place there so it may also be to play out wide

Good signing, he's something we haven't got. Big lad to hold the ball up.

It's 5 forward now but the four signed on aren't target men or good at holding the ball up, something I think we need the capability to have depending on the opposition.

We could of done with a big lad up top to bully Halifaxs number 50 on Tuesday night.

So makes sense to me as if we play 442 or 433 we'l probably use Norwood/Margetts/Mangan out wide because they have the talent to play there.

I would hazard a guess that cole will go out on loan, and it will be either Mangan & Margetts upfront, or against the bigger a sides Mangan/Margetts & Blissett

Norward when fit will go out on the wing if we continue with 4-4-2,

Or we might play the big man up top, with 2 players just off him, and a central 3 in midfield

Four matches into the season and we get a loan striker for a month.
Nice to see the panic button still works.

Can't possible see how this is pressing the'panic button'! GB has identified a role we need covering and instead of divering around has filled that role quickly. As others have said we are lacking a target man who will be able to hold the ball up and out muscle some of the central defenders in this league who will pick are current crop of strikers off as canon fodder. Good positive signing this for me and I'm sure if he does the job he will be staying with us for longer. No pleasing some people!!

I would absolutely disagree that it is a panic move. As pretty much everyone on here has said he's something we don't have at the moment. We tried Cole out in this role and it didn't really work, we tried two smaller guys instead, which has limitations, so we went out and got someone who can outmuscle defenders and hold the ball up. Good management, not panic.

For those with memories this is similar to how Kingy built his team. Assembled his squad then assessed where we lacked a bit, so Harvey, then Steel and then a keeper were added to complete the lineup.

Grimsby manager is bitter he wanted him and he chose the bigger club but hurst says "we play Tranmere whilst he's there hopefully we keep him quiet" I think with Norwood not match got brabin wanted options he might be something different.

Blissett did not move to Grimsby because there was no nailed on starting place for him so I assume he will go straight into your side tomorrow or on the bench at least as he wouldn't have had much opportunity to train with you yet.Bit of a strange one to assess is Bliss,scored against us and ran our defence ragged then we signed him the next week.Hes pacy alright but not that great in the air for someone of his height,much better at running the channels rather than being an out and out target man.Keen as mustard though and will give of his best every game.His control is iffy to say the least but he's only been a full time pro since January and still very green because of that.Can look unplayable at times but also more like Bambi on ice as well sometimes.Impossible to tell how he will do for you but no question that he has decent ability,just needs to find more consistency in his game.

Tranmere are the biggest club in the Birkenhead fringe, but compared to Grimsby, I'm not sure, although the ground is bigger and the average bigger, but where they to be being financed to the same level as Tranmere, that might put them on a par.

He has a decent goal and assist record in the past, but the inference that he has been brought in to combat some sort of defensive threat is slightly flawed for me, as were the manager someone who had not managed in this league it would see more of a viable reason to sign him, but Brabin should have enough experience of this league to know the sort of defensive threat that exists.

However that doesn't mean Blissett was not brought in for that reason, which means if he was, Brabin didn't bring such a person in sooner, either due to availability, or the belief he already had at least one player, capable of nullifying the threat from rough housing and park the bus defensive setups.

He should be decent performer with any luck.

Everyone here seems to think he's gonna be the big target man who we can throw the ball upto when needed. Of course he's a big unit so that kind of answers itself. But can this lad play can't find to much about him but if Grimsby were enquiring he must have something to offer maybe more than big guy knocking it down to little guy tactics which incidentally I have no problem with it if it gets results as that's what we are after.

Either way he has good pedigree, don't forget, GB is a coach and will work out the best way to use his skills (I hope)

I am just not sure about this as a signing. Does it mean that the manager feels his other forwards where mistake signings and lacking strike power?
We have spent the last couple of season hoofing balls up to a target man and where has it taken us? In this case,it seems Blisset is not even good in the air.
I was rather hoping that we would avoid loans as we have seen all too often how they can erode any sense of togetherness.
Granted Norwood may have an injury problem but if we are to cover that then getting someone who is a creative winger may have have been a better option.
In essence I am not convinced that the only way to win this division is the longball up to a target man. In many ways it is the easiest situation for defenders. When Bristol Rovers played us last year in the cup their game did not look so one dimensional.
It is not necessarily a panic button signing but seems to signal a change of direction

We're 2nd. Scored 6, conceded 1 goal in 4 games and the goals we have scored were of very good quality.I think we need to trust GB not question him like we did with Les, Edwards, Adams and John Mc. He is experienced at this level unlike the others mentioned and we have made an excellent start with practically a brand new XI.

The teams in this league are no mugs and know that to get a result against us they need to be in our faces for 90 minutes. We need to do the same but we also have the quality in midfield and up front to take the chances. How many did we create against Halifax? In time Mangan/margutts etc will bang them in.

Keep the Faith and all that.....

All sport is in part attractive because decisions are open to debate. This isnt the same as beying for a manager to. The game would not be half as interesting if we had adopt a passive everything that is done is fine by me approach.
Footbal is about judgements and no manager is omnipotent despite the fact that some premier managers believe themselves to be.

Both Norwood and Margetts are apparently injured which would explain the loan reasons a bit more!

Margetts must be OK? He's starting today.

He did more in 35 minutes than Margetts did all game! I forgot Margetts was playing at one point!

No but you also didn't make it clear by saying "not a good start for the lad" - that to me implies the comment was at him not the team but fair enough!

Didn't have the quality to hit him nor the awareness to play off him. Also when he jumps in the box it looks like a bombs gone off

Won most of the headers , played ok

Were you expecting Barcelona? We're a non-league club. Do you expect us to have players at our disposal capable of playing neat passing football. If they were able to do this they wouldn't be playing for a non-league club.

A lot of fans do Doogie. They need to realise exactly where we are and we are up against or they will do nothing but help to assist in the team's continued decline.

I think fans expect us to try to get the ball down on the floor and pass it not aimless hoof it too a big target man which weve done for a number of years with little success.

nobody expects us to be like Barcelona but they are entitled to expect us to have a good go and play on the front foot against teams bot the slow tempo weve played in the 3 home matches so far.

Non-league football is in essence more than just the up and under 2 dimensional football, people alleged it was for eons, when football first became about the reasonably well paid players in one or two leagues and the unpaid or lowly paid in the others and governing bodies permitted players to earn.

Whether unpaid Aston Villa and West Brom players got accused of up and under hoofing tactics, in the late 1800's is debatable.

However there is a fine line between expectation of players and realistic summation of players and players at this level cannot be expected to play like Championship players, let alone Champions League players, but there should be more expectation for them not to play like some stereotype still being touted 20 years ago.

So if the ball should be put on the grass and sprayed around to feet even if most of your passes never exceed 6 yards to preserve a good ratio of pass completion then so be it and there is not reason to suggest at his level that is expecting too much of people, even £300 a week semi-pro's, let alone pro's on £600+

sutton just gets it and hoofs it as far and as high as he can, he`ll be made up having blisset to aim at

In my opinion, Blisset has been signed because he provides a different option up front. Both Margretts and Mangan are similar in style and although skillful, can be bullied a bit by strong-arm defences. Blisset due to his size and strength should take the weight off the second striker. Cole Stockton could have filled this role but looks a bit out of sorts at present. I liked the way Blisset got up to all the high balls and hopefully, with more training this week, should link up better with the second striker.

we have had many a player before on one month loans that did very little or nothing at all. lets hope luthers nephew has some impact. just hoping that this loan signing so early in the season doesn't signal that more are to come because we all know what that will lead to. there have been a number of reasons for our downfall but the biggest factor, by a country mile, was loan players.

I'd actually say budget. If the club had been bolstering the budget with corporate deals and sponsorships, there could have been squads with another 4-5 players in each season, costed for and affordable, then you'd need less loans.

Also if you got some loans, there might have just been the leeway, based on budget spending, to get one or two championship players with experience to come in, that could play like top 6 league 1 players, not untried kids many of whom were either inconsistent in league 1, or played like league 2 players or worse; Darville springs to mind.

Hoof is easy option especially when every missed pass is berated by some mindless fans. The amount of times I have to listen to a know nothing fan who thinks doing the right thing but failing is better than never doing the right thing is unbelievable. They should stick to fifa 2015 rather than watching the real thing

maybe some people spend all week watching the prem, champions league and the likes then come to pp and expect to see the same type of football. Maybe they can't get there head round the fact that its more similar to park football than elite level

the ball gets played out to sutton and he just hoofs it every time, its pathetic, even lads on a sunday morning can pass it into midfield

Blisset is a dreadful player has height but is weak and cant head the ball or jump and has no sense of position on the pitch , the guy is useless, 100% he will fail in the conference hes not even good enough down there. Good luck for the season though hope you return with Grimsby.

i wasn`t impressed by saturday`s brief cameo, i`ll give him time but i don`t expect him to be any better than what we already have, TBH

we don`t want the easy option, we want the right option, they should be big enough to get hold of the ball and pass it, if there hoofing it because there scared then the shouldn`t be professional footballers

The only acceptable form of hoof ball you should see, is when you watch You've Been Framed and there's a horse playing with a plastic football.
