Simon Haworth Leaves Prenton Park

Tranmere striker Simon Haworth has had his contract terminated at his own request and will leave the club with immediate effect. Haworth broke his leg in a game at Brentford in January 2004 and never fully recovered although he has not yet said that he will retire from football altogether.

27 year old Howarth signed for Rovers in March 2002 from Wigan Athletic for a fee of £125,000 and soon went on to become the first Tranmere player to score twenty goals in a season since John Aldridge when he scored 22 in the 2002-03 season.

 

After the broken leg. Tranmere kindly offered him another years contract with the hope he would recover but despite making two starts and one substitute appearance this season, it became clear that his leg had not fully healed.

 

Altogether in 89 appearances he scored 34 goals which was a good return from the Welshman.  It is not known whether his request to have his contract terminated is with a view to retirement from the game or to give him some time to think whilst he recovers and find himself a new club when he’s ready. 

 

His keen interest in horse-racing may provide him with a new career outside of football and he currently co-owns a racehorse with teammate and fellow Welshman Gareth Roberts.
