Reds suffer injuries to two players

Alonso will have an operation to repare the broken leg he sustained on New Years day against Chelsea while Kirkland, on Friday will have an operation to sort out his back problem.

The news of these injuries is a big blow to Benitez who has already had a hard time with injuries since his arrival as Liverpool manager. These include:
- Baros
- Josemi
- Kewell
- Gerrard
- Nunez
- Cisse
- Finnan
Alonso is now added to the list of injuries whereas Kirkland has already sustained several injuries this season.

At first Alonso was said to be out for up to six weeks, however a specialist yesterday confirmed the attacking midfielder needs to have a screw inserted onto his ankle to repare the damage done by Frank Lampard on New Years day.This means he will be out of action for three months.

Kirkland has also been given the same amount of time in the treatment room after the decision that he needs to have an operation to repare his lower back.
