Reserves kick start season with 8-1 win

Matias Vuoso and Chris Shuker both hit hat tricks as City reserves beat Bury 8-1 in the Manchester Senior Cup. The result comes in the wake of KK warning the second string that he expected better than they had produced so far this season.
Reserves finally get goingAfter a poor start to the season City’s reserves finally got their season up and running with an easy 8-1 win against Bury in the Manchester Senior Cup.Earlier in the week Kevin Keegan had expressed concern at the second strings performances so far this season. The players obviously heeded his warnings and put a performance together. It took just 15 seconds for City to open the scoring, Chris Shuker getting the goal, and within 20 minutes the game was over as a contest as City hit another 3. Shuker got his second to make it 2-0, a Steve Redmond own goal made it 3-0 followed by Matias Vuoso’s first goal of the night. Vuoso got his second on 34 minutes, scoring from the penalty spot, and completed his hat trick on 44 minutes to make the half time score 6-0 to City. The second half failed to produce a similar deluge of goals but City still managed to add another 2 with Paul Ritchie heading home on 59 minutes before Shuker completed his hat trick on 70 minutes. Bury managed to get in on the scoring act with an 85th minute penalty. Keegan will no doubt be pleased with the response to his warnings early in the week. He expects his reserves to be pushing his first team players for their places and will no doubt take great heart from both Matias Vuoso and Chris Shuker grabbing hat tricks. |
