City clinch Title in style

City took apart a very poor Barnsley side from the off and it came as no surprise when City took the lead on 12 minutes, Huckerby finishing a neat Bernabia cross. Barnsley hit the bar from a long range free kick before City doubled their advantage in the 35th minute. Bernabia was once more the provider, playing the ball across to Huckerby who turned his marker before finishing low into the corner. Barnsley had the audacity to try and gate crash the party, pulling one back through Dyer on 43 minutes to give the half time score a little less polish for City.

Barnsley had the first real chance of the second half, Gibbs shooting wide after good work on the right from Dyer. That was it from Barnsley as City stepped up a couple of gears. On 53 minutes it was Niclas Jensen who beat the offside trap on the left to provide the cross for Jon Mackens first home goal. 10 minutes later came the move of the match, Shaun Wright-Phillips won the ball near his own area and played the ball to Bernabia, his crafty back heel found Huckerby who in turn returned it to Ali, Hucks ran into space and Ali slipped the neatest of balls into his path for Hucks to curl it beyond the keeper and in off the post for his second successive home hat-trick.

The party was now in full swing and on 70 minutes the icing was put on the cake as Jonny Macken claimed his second and City's fifth. City toyed with Barnsley for the remaining 20 minutes as the Champions demonstrated their superiority.

At the whistle the clubs appeal, for all to stay off the pitch, was heeded and the team came back out for a lap of honour. It was the first time in living memory that City had actually won something at Maine Road and the celebrations were a joy to behold. Keegan has taken us back at the first attempt and has made us all proud to be blue, we are no longer going out of habit but to watch football to be proud of. This was stage one of the Party the true celebration comes in two weeks when the 1st Division trophy will be presented to the team.
