Shaun Goater is hoping to be fit for the start of the season despite initial reports of him missing the first month. Peter Schmeichel is also not as bad as first thought and is now likely to miss out on the first month rather than most of the season.

Triple injury strike

City have been hit with a triple injury scare in the last week but there are signs of it easing in all but Wanchope’s case.

Paulo Wanchope has had more problems with his knee and will definitely be missing until at least Christmas.

Peter Schmeichel injured his cruciate ligament in Tuesday night’s friendly at Preston. The injury however, is not as bad as first thought. Schmeichel is now expected to miss just the first month of the season rather than the great percentage of it that was initially feared.

Shaun Goater may yet make the opening day’s fixture at Leeds after telling the official site that he expected to be fit again in two to three weeks. The Goat suffered a broken toe whilst playing for the U19’s.

The injuries to Goater and Wanchope go a long way to justifying Keegan’s insistence on having six first team forwards, he still has four fit.
