City continued their fine pre season form with midweek wins at Preston and Bury. The Bury game in particular will be memorable for the fact that it saw Niclas Anelka's first goals for the club.
Blues win at Preston and BuryCity’s impressive pre season form continued this week with wins at both Preston and Bury.City took on Preston on Tuesday evening in Ryan Kidd’s testimonial. A large City contingent saw the blues turn in a convincing performance as goals from Jon Macken, Laurent Charvet and Chris Shuker gave them a comfortable 3-1 win. The only downside to the game was the injury to Peter Schmeichel who had to leave the field early in the first half. On Wednesday evening the blues travelled to Gigg Lane to take on Bury. A large crowd turned up to swell Bury’s coffers and were fortunate enough to witness Niclas Anelka’s first goals for the club. Anelka grabbed two, Wright-Phillips and Stephen Jordan one each as City recorded a 4-3 win. Both games allowed Keegan to give his first and second strings a run out, basically a team for each half. As is to be expected the first choice players performed superbly. The only real down side was the performance from the second string in the second half at Bury. Defending a 3-0 half time lead they allowed Bury to pull 3 goals back before finally sealing the win at the end. City now go on to Hamburg where some 3,000 supporters are expected to follow them to show their support and indulge in Hamburg’s nightlife. |
