City goal spree continues at Tranmere

City made it 13 goals in 2 nights with a stunning 7-1 win at Tranmere. The win ccomes in the wake of Monday nights 6-0 rout of Rochdale and sets the team up nicely for the coming Premiership season.
Goal spree continuesCity rounded off their pre season programme with a 7-1 thrashing of Tranmere Rovers. The win made it 13 goals in 2 nights for City following Monday’s 6-0 win at Rochdale.The game was in total contrast to last years pre season visit when Tranmere ran out 1-0 winners in a typical low key affair, how times change. City dominated from the off and took just 15 minutes to open the scoring. Record signing Niclas Anelka grabbed his third goal in a City shirt to give them the start they wanted. Chris Shuker continued to press for first team recognition with his third goal in two nights to put City 2-0 up. Anelka grabbed his second of the night just before half time to send City in at the break 3-0 up. The second half was more of the same. Anelka turned provider for Shaun Wright-Phillips to make it 4-0 before Tranmere pulled one back. Tranmere’s reply was met by an instant City response as Algerian trialist, Karim Kerkar, staked a claim for a permanent move with City’s fifth. Kevin Horlock made it 6-1 before Kerkar grabbed his second of the night to round off a great night for both himself and the club. The loudest applause of the evening was reserved for Eric Nixon, whose testimonial this game was, a great servant for both City and Tranmere. City have now completed their pre season fixtures with only a “behind closed doors” first team against second left for Keegan to decide on his opening day team. All in all it’s been an excellent pre season with just the defeat at Hamburg going against City. The goal scoring has continued where it was left off last season and we must now hope they can take it up a level into the Premiership. The future is looking bright so bring on Leeds and let the season begin. |
