Saddlers make a profit : Bonser does it again.

The official site today confirmed that the club have made a £43,000 pre tax trading profit. This is the 11th consecutive season that a trading profit has been made at the Bescot ensuring Walsall are one of the best run clubs around.
These figures are good news for everyone connected with Walsall FC. Roy Whalley said the concept of "living within our means is starting to make sense", and it is really beginning to hit home amongst the fans. The loss of the ITV Digital money may well mean we will not be seeing figures like this next season, but the ones we have here are still encouraging.
Compared with Last season...
- Turnover is up to £7.95m from £5.68m,
- Playing and Admin expenses up by £2.58m to £7.96
- Match receipts were were up from £1.6m to £1.8m
- The "off-field" Income is up to £6.1m from £4.1m
The Pre tax profit of £43,000 makes it 11 consecutive seasons that we have made a profit. During these 11 seasons the only player of note we have purchased has been Jorge Leitao (£150,000), while Andy Watson (£60,000) and Martin O'Connor (1st spell £40,000) are the other notable fee's.
At times during these 11 seasons the fans have condemned the clubs financial policy, but any club that doesn't back its manager with transfer fee's then sacks them is bound to be criticized. Who knows if ITV Digital hadn't have gone belly up we may still have been doing this.
If you look at the facts you have to ask if Jeff Bonser has ever made a bad decision. His managerial appointments have been impressive. Nicholl (Promotion from Division 3), Sorenson (Attracted some of the best players we have ever had, a fans Favourite), Graydon (The Best manager we have ever had) and Colin Lee (So far so good). While under his tenure we have made a profit 11 seasons running, built a new stand, got the best squad we have arguably ever had and are on our way to establishing our selves as a first division club.
Their is no doubt every Saddlers fan is grateful to Jeff Bonser and the board for ensuring we still have a football club. May their good work continue. Thank you.
