Should McCarthy switch to Scotland

There are rumours circulating that James McCarthy is about to switch International allegiance from Ireland back to Scotland.

McCarthy committed himself to the land of his grandfather as a teenager and has played at every level for the Republic from Under 17s up to full level. After his failure to be picked by Scotland at Under 15 level he made a pledge to his dying grandfather he would play for Ireland.

But after missing Tuesday night’s Ireland game with Wales, which was classed as a competitive game and therefore would have tied McCarthy to Ireland for good.

This obviously sparked a whole host of stories he was about to return to the country of his birth and play for Scotland.

While this might seem the right thing to do for McCarthy how popular will it be with the Tartan Army?

I can only speak for myself and I think that once you have made your choice you should stick with and I would not be happy if he was selected for Scotland. I know many see McCarthy and McGeady as traitors, I am not so melodramatic but they have made their beds and they should lie in them.
