Motherwell and Celtic learned this morning who they will be up against in their Champions League Third Round qualifying draws.
Celtic were drawn against either HSK Helsinki of Finland or KR Reykjavik ofIcelandin the Champions section of the draw, while Motherwell were drawn against Panithanaikos of Greece in theLeague Route.
Both were drawn at home in the first leg with dates to be confirmed for either Tues 31st July or Wednesday 1st August, with the away legs one week later.
Celtic will know who they are due to play only one week ahead of the ties with the second leg of the second round qualifiers to be completed next week. Although it is pretty certain it will beHelsinkithey will be heading for given they are seven nil up from the first leg!!
Motherwell will travel toGreecefor the first time in their short European history to take on 20 times Greek Champions Panithanaikos of Athens. The Greek side also made it to the European Cup Final in 1971, losing to Ajax of Amsterdam.
The Greeks have one familiar face in their squad with former Rangers defender Jean Alain Boumsong in their defence, not a name to send shivers down your spince!
Of the two sides Celtic will be confident of going through, while Motherwell will have a wee feeling if they can do something at home in the first leg who knows what could happen! At least both know they have the Europa League play off round as consolation!
