Sunderland Manager Steve Bruce has a doubt over the fitness of top scorer Darren Bent ahead of Saturday's game at Wigan Athletic as he faces a nervous wait on the results of a scan.

Sunderland's top scorer, with 9 goals, was injured during the 1-0 victory over Arsenal - a game in which he scored the winning goal.

Bemt underwent a scan yesterday to investigate potential hamstring damage and Bruce admits that his £10m star striker is a doubt for Saturday's game at Wigan.

"Darren's had a scan and we're waiting for the results," he confirmed.  "If it is his hamstring, we could be looking at about three weeks out.

"We won't know anything more until the results come back so we will have to keep our fingers crossed."

If Bent is ruled out, Bruce will be without both of his regular first-choice strikers as Kenwyne Jones serves out the last of his 3 game ban after a receiving a straight red in the 2-2 draw with West Ham at the Sunderland Stadium of Light.

Fraizer Campbell, David Healy and Daryl Murphy remain fit and available.
