Stockdale signs with Fulham

Darlington Goalie David Stockdale moves to Craven Cottage after a successful season with the Quakers. Although they reached the end of season play-offs, they failed to make it to the final with a loss against Rochdale, going to a penalty shootout. Stockdale has a great record last season and has impressed in the lower leagues.

The 20 clean sheets last season is an impressive record and certainly one which clubs in the Premier League might notice. Can he cut it with some serious shots being targeted his way by some of the best strikers in the world? Probably not yet, but could he in the future? Well Roy certainly thinks he's a good prospect, worth contracting for two years, and seeing if the Fulham coaching staff can develop him quickly and efficiently. So what of Ricardo Batista, the last up and coming young goalkeeper? Surely now fans must be wondering how many keepers we need on the books. With Schwarzer signing for the Whites, an aging but efficient Kasey Keller having an integral part in the survival of the team, and of course Antti Niemi, previously a fan's favourite between the posts, looking to find regular football elsewhere, but with us for the meantime, the goalkeeping duties look well and truly covered.

David Stockdale seems to me to be a sensible investment, who will come of age for the  club as the older keepers are thinking about a nice pub to buy and run. At least we all hope he will bloom , and not be yet another young hopeful who failed to live up to all that potential and enthusiastic expectation.
