One point at home means Roy's men must do better

Roy at Sunderland Game
October 23 2008

A Disappointing draw last weekend has been spun as "an end to the run of defeats" by Roy Hodgson. Although this is true, I feel it would have better to end this awful run of results with resounding victory. There is no doubt in my mind that the defence is stronger and more reliable than this time last year, but the lack of goals is a serious worry.

The real money was spent on our forwards in the transfer market this year, with Zamora and Johnson costing the lion's share of the budget. In fact Pantsil, who looked a bit like a free gift with Bobby Zamora, is proving himself to be a great buy, impressing many with his skill and workrate. Andy Johnson has yet to score, which is a worry, and there must be reason for this lack of goals.  Is it that he hasn't settled in yet, the injury he had at the start of season never fully healed or is it that he doesn't get enough quality balls supplied to him.  Whatever the reason, the top Premiership scorer in 04/05 needs to find his form again.  Fulham fans have memories of an expensive striker who never really managed to fulfill his potential, or cost (Steve Marlet anyone?), and don't want a repeat performance.

The other worrying thing for me is the lack of use of our subs bench when things aren't going to plan. Roy always seems to do too little too late, and sometimes makes strange choices. When we are losing and there is 20 minutes left, why not add a striker to try and salvage a point.  It's worth the risk as if we lose we get no points, it's not as if we get a bonus prize for only losing by one goal. I'd try for the points and risk an extra goal. We need to see a positve plan B at 60-65 minutes if we are behind. The Bench celebrate at Fratton Park

An away fixture at Portsmouth will remind us all of that magic moment at the end of the last year, and this would be the perfect time to show everyone that we can win, and win away from the Cottage.

Come On You Whites!
