Fulham push aside West Brom in convincing display
February 22 2009
Fulham arrived back at Craven Cottage after a dispiriting defeat at Man utd and a poor draw in the FA Cup at Swansea to match up against West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies, languishing at the wrong end of the table, were desperate for some points but The Whites dominated the game from start to finish and took all three points winning the game 2-0.
Bobby "Zammo" Zamora who has seemed to"Just Say No" at every opportunity to score a goal this season, finally came through for Fulham to stick the ball in West Brom's net early in the second half.
Fulham started well against the visitors with a number of good shots on goal. The woodwork seemed to be firmly on West Brom's side with four good shots being denied over the course of the game. The first half's posession was firmly in favour of Fulham, and we were unlucky not to be three or four goals up. Danny Murphy showed he had been taking a leaf out of Jimmy Bullard's book with a great free kick attempt tipped away by Baggies goalie Scott Carson.
Dickson Etuhu returned to the starting line up after a minor injury, and showed Fulham fans a much better display than the initial games he played after the departure of Bullard to Hull. His strike on goal was forceful and direct, but sadly Carson was on hand to save the attempt. Clint Dempsey was next up to have a crack at goal. An excellent shot was driven in only to be tipped onto the woodwork by Carson.
Another great effort by the Skipper again clattered the crossbar and it seemed that The Cottagers would never get one in the net. Bobby Zamora missed an open goal just before half time sending the ball skyward. Fans had their heads in their hands as they thought he would never score.
After the half time interval Fulham continued to pressure the visitors. The break came at 61 minutes when the bargain that is Paintsil made a great run on the right wing, crossed the ball in, after a touch on the head of Johnson fell to Zamora who made no mistake and fired the ball in to the back of the net. Brede Hangeland almost scored from a corner, the woodwork yet again saving The Albion. A minute later a rebound from a Zamora strike fell to the feet of Andy Johnson who needed no invitation to ensure victory, making it 2-0.
The game saw the welcome return of Joe Kamara who got to stretch his legs with Nevland and Dacourt in thre final 10 minutes of the game. A late penalty conceded by the usually reliable Hangeland gave West Brom hope but was abley saved by Schwarzer
The Superfulham 3 stars are:

** Dickson Etuhu. A great all round display. Solid tackles and intelligent passing
*** Danny Murphy. Solid Midfield play and fantastic passing. A couple of fabulous attempts on goal and led well throughout the game, ensuring the team didn't get disheartened by being denied all those times
