After several online discussions between like-minded Reds fans around the Penistone area, a meeting was called on 15 May at the Crystal Palace pub in Thurlstone. [Despite the name Penistone Reds, the pub was chosen, and remains, the ideal venue for meetings]
At the first meeting 15 people turned up expressing an interest in joining a new supporters club. It was agreed that a get-together should take place (on the first Monday of) every month. Late-May saw some early discussions with Barnsley Football Club to agree how best we could work together and move forward.
The usual monthly meeting was suplimented with meeting with the Barnsley FC Supporters Trust and with Barnsley FC General Manager Don Rowing. A constitution was agreed and a committee was appointed.
Several articles in the Barnsley Chronicle emphasised the growth of Penistone Reds Supporters Club in just one month.
July brought the first successful event – a BBQ – and Penistone Reds’ first organised trips to York City & Rotherham United friendlies. PRSC’s first pin badges made an appearance too.
