An early goal from Steven McGarry ensured Motherwell drew their first of three home pre-season games in a week against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Fir Park this evening. Wolves goal was scored by Sylan Ebank-Blake, in a match that was evenly contested until the usual raft of subs.

The early stages were dominated by the visitors but it was Well who scored with their first attack in only three minutes. Hammell’s diagonal ball found Clarkson at the edge of the box and his flick sent McGarry clean through to flick past Hennessey in the Wolves goal. Motherwells Steven McGarry  Wolves could’ve been goals up minutes later with Jones hitting a shot at Smith and Ebanks-Blake shooting wide. Although at the other end a bad pass back from Elokobi allowed Porter a shot at goal, but Hennessey saved with his legs. The visitors deservedly equalised on 21 minutes when a Kightly cross picked out the head of Ebanks Blake to nod home unmarked at the back post. There was one flashpoint before the break when Quinn and Kightly clashed before Malcolm appeared to kick out at the Wolves man. Given it was a friendly the ref merely calmed things down and played on. The second half suffered from the usual raft of subs with Well using seven and Wolves as many as nine. This meant there was little goal mouth incident to report, although Neil Collins could’ve scored in the final minute but he was denied by a fine save from Smith. G. Smith, Quinn (Connolly), Craigan, Reynolds, Hammell, McGarry (D. Smith), Malcolm (Hughes), Fitzpatrick (Lasley), O’Brien (Trialist), Porter (Murphy), Clarkson (Slane). Subs not used: Imley, Archdeacon.
