Four first half goals from Clarkson, Porter, Darren Smith and Malcolm helped us to demolish Bradford City in our latest friendly at Fir Park on Saturday. The second half saw three trialsits given a run out once again with McGhee seeing enough to be encouraged.
Saturday saw us demolish our claret and amber cousins in an emphatic performance that saw us four by half time and we never looked back.
One of the quickest goals in our history got things off to a flying start with David Clarkson scoring after only 16 seconds. Further goals from Porter, Darren Smith and Malcolm saw off the Bradford challenge.
The second half was all about the subs who came on, with 16 year old Paul Slane looking like he is another find from the Youth Development programme. After the game Mark McGhee heaped some pressure on the youngster by comparing him to Robbie Keane when he was 16 and he was managing him at Wolves. But he also stressed Slane is now part of the first team picture as he is too good to be stuck in the youth tea, We also gave a run out to giant centre half Seyfo Soley, the Gambian International captain looked an imposing figure. After the game Manager Mark McGhee said he had seen enough to keep him at the club for a few more days to see what he can offer, while at the same time working on his fitness. Jim O’Brien also appeared in the second half and looked lively and McGhee hopes to speak to Celtic this week with a view to completing the deal. He also claimed he was unaware of Dundee United’s desire to take the winger to Tannadice. Finally Souleymane Mamam was given another 45 minutes, and he looked good again with some nice touches. Again McGhee said he had done enough to merit another look before he makes up his mind about who he keeps for the start of the season in two week’s time.
