Despite a double from David Clarkson bringing Well level on two occassions we shipped three goals at the other end to slump to a three two defeat on the SPL's opening day for 2008-09. Defensive frailties came back to haunt us once again, ans this is an area for McGhee to address.

Unfortunately I was forced to miss my first game in seven years and keep up with the game from my sick bed, and this in not something I want to do again in a hurry.

I chose to watch Soccer Saturday, rather than listen to the game on the Radio as I find thar hard to do.

It was therefore disappointing to find we had lost the first goal, before the elation of an equaliser. This didn't last long before I was brought back to earth by a Hearts goal. Sadly this was repeated in the second half, as I thought we had secured a point with only nine minutes to go!

Reading the reports and talking to people at the game it would appear our defence had a bit of a nightmare, and sadly there is little McGhee can do here until he brings additional bodies in.

The back four we played on Sat are the only four defenders we have and therefore teams know what they are going to line up against and can therefore plan to overcome anything we can do.

The good news is that Clarkson grabbed a double and should ensure he is in the Scotland squad for the Northern Ireland friendly in a couple of weeks.

We are well and truly back on the Well roller-coaster and we can look forward to taking on Aberdeen next week, with the Dons also losing their first game to relegation favourites Inverness.
