Finally getting the opportunity to update the news from the UEFA Cup tie at Nancy and then the League trip to Ibrox in the last few days. It has been a week of highs in France followed by a major disappointment with another routine defeat to Rangers at Ibrox
Been busy over the last few days since returning from France and watching the Nancy first leg. The whole travelling in Europe experience was unbelievable, even for someone who had been to Dortmund 14 years ago.
The game itself was a bit of a disappointment given we played 4-5-1 rather than our normal more progressive 4-3-3 or 4-4-2. This seemed to neutralise the threat of David Clarkson while at the same time leaving John Sutton far too isolated.
The good thing is the tie is still alive, and largely in huge part to excellent goal keeping of Graeme Smith who made a stunning save from a long range shot and then save a penalty.
We then had to travel to Ibrox yesterday and once again we were extremely disappointing and never really got into the game until we were two goals down. From then on we hit the post and scored a fine goal from Clarkson.
While we are all enjoying ourselves with our European exploits we have dropped to 11th in the table, therefore we need to start winning League games, particularly with St. Mirren and Falkirk coming to Fir Park in the coming weeks.
We also have a good chance to get going again with a Lanarkshire derby with Hamilton in the League cup on Wednesday night.
