Two early first half goals set up a comfortable victory for Motherwel against Hearts this afternoon.

Motherwell got off to a blistering start with two goals in the opening 14 minutes. The first came in only 74 seconds, Hateley and O'Brien worked a short corner and the winger's cross picked out Mark Reynolds at the back post and he had the simple task of heading home from close range.

The second came on 14 minutes when O'Brien picked out Lasley's midfield burst into the box, and his cross found Sutton in space and he had all the time in the world to score from close range.

At this stage Hearts were a shambles at the back and Motherwell looked like scoring every time they went up the park. If it had been 4-0 at half time I don't think Hearts could have complained.

Hearts were a bit more resolute in the second half but it was Motherwell who made it three nil of 68 minutes. Murphy slipped past Thomson for the umpteenth time and whipped a cross into the box, Jutkiewicz missed with a diving header but the ball fell for O'Brien to fire home from an acute angle.

It was a blessing they got the third as Hearts went up the park and scored with their first genuine effort on target. Suso picked out Templeton and the youngster turned and fired a shot high past Ruddy from 12 yards out.

This was an impressive win that almost ensures top six football and allows Motherwell to concentrate on looking up the table.
