Craig Brown's Motherwell slumped to their second succesive defeat when Falkirk bet them 1-0 at Fir Park this afternoon.
Motherwell were looking to bounce back from last week's defeat to Dundee United but once again a lack lustre performance was punished with a 0-1 defeat.
Motherwell never really going in a poor game and were a goal behind in 27 minutes. Healey's ball into Mouthinho was back heeled into the path of Ryan Flynn who had the easiest of tasks to side foot home from close range.
Motherwell had to replace injured keeper John Ruddy with Michael Fraser at half time, the former Inverness man making his Fir Park debut for the side.
He was actually the busier keeper having to save from Compton mid way through the half and then from Stewart in stoppage time.
Unbelievably Motherwell's best chance came after that when Jennings prodded a Craiga flick goalwards but Olejnik responded well to keep the ball out.
There is a fear now that our season is over but the manager insists we still have plenty to play, "I think we still have a lot play for in the remainder of the season. We now play six games against the teams at the top of the table and I think we will respond to that. Our last game before the split is against Celtic at Celtic Park and then against the other five in the top half.
"I think Hearts got a point today and we are now seven points ahead of them, which I think anyone at Motherwell would have taken at this point of the season. St. Johnstone are closing in on Hearts and if we don't get at least fifth position it would be a major disappointment.
"I am quite confident we could do that, there was the opportunity to push for higher than that, Dundee Utd look like being third. Hibs and Motherwell and looking for fourth and fifth and Hibs play Celtic tomorrow and they could take something from that and move five points clear of us."
