A Nick Blackman goal with just over fifteen minute left on the clock rescued a point from this game at Paisley.

There were no changes to the starting line up from last week’s defeat at Easter Rd., and still no sign of Keith Lasley.

Motherwell forced the first save of the game in the 12th minute when an Alan Gow free from 25 yards was turned over by keeper Craig Sansom, a couple of minutes later a Tom Hateley free was deflected on to the post and scrambled clear.

Ten minutes later there was a ong range effort just over at either end, Blackman for Well and Van Zanten for Saints.

With just under 10 minutes to the break Saints were lucky not to be reduced to ten men. Murphy slipped Higdon who cynically pulled him down, and he was lucky not to get his 2nd yellow of the afternoon after already being booked for a foul on keeper Darren Randolph

Saints took the lead on 37 minutes as Motherwell failed to clear a corner properly and the ball was fed back out to Paul McGowan whose cross was flicked in by the head of Gareth Wardlaw in off the back post.

As the half reached its conclusion Higdon comes close with a couple of long range efforts to bring an end to an eminently forgettable first 45 minutes.

The Second half continued the poor stuff of the first with the first real effort on goal coming after 60 minutes when Gow bent a free kick over the wall but straight at the keeper.

Four minutes later it was Saints who came close, Higdon’s free took a deflection off the wall but Randolph recovered to save with his foot. Play switched to the other end and Humphrey cross picked out Jennings but the midfielder could only side foot wide.

The home side were once again fortunate not to see a red card, when Wardlaw dived in with a scissors action on Hateley but the ref decided a yellow would be enough.

Our of nothing on 74 minutes Well found a way back into the game, Blackman collected a ball at the edge of the box spun his man and rifled a left foot shot high past Samson who was given no chance.

Well get confidence from the goal and a fine move between Sutton and Gow sees the latter side foot a shot just wide.

Saints finally reduced to ten men when Higdon makes a lazy tackle on Craigain with six minutes left. In the last minute sent a shot just swerving wide from 18 yards out.

In the end the point apiece was probably about right over the ninety minutes, but it could also be said that Saints threw it away when they decided to sit back in their lead and invite Motherwell on.
