Stuart McCall has made the first moves to strengthen his squad when he brought two players in on loan today.
The Well boss looks to have replaces Nick Blackman and Alan Gow with his first two signings for the club.
He has signed American striker Mike Grella from Leeds United on loan until the end of the season. With the experienced Walsall winger Steve Jones joining the club on the same terms.
Jones, 34, has 29 Northern Ireland caps and played under McCall at Bradford City. Grella, 23, spent the first half of the campaign farmed out to Carlisle United, playing 11 times and scoring three goals for the League One outfit.
Grella joined Leeds in January 2009 following a successful trial after leaving Cary RailHawks Under-23s. He failed to score in 12 appearances in his first half season but hit the net five times in 28 games last term as Leeds won promotion to the Championship.
However, after making only two substitute appearances this season, he joined Carlisle in October.
Jones can count Crewe, Burnley and Huddersfield among his former clubs and McCall is pleased to be reunited with the player.
There is also a promise of more to come, potentially before Saturday’s game with Grella and Jones already being lined up for that squad.
