Shadow Well side thumped by Celtic

A much changed Motherwell side were well beaten by Celtic at Parkhead today in the last SPL game of the season.

Motherwell made five changes to the side which had drawn with Killie in midweek including a debut for keeper Lee Hollis.

We could’ve taken the lead in the opening minute, when Steve Jones sent a shot just wide from a Chris Humphrey cross. Hollis was then called into action to deny Samaras and Hooper.

On 19 minutes we had another great chance, Shaun Hutchinson rose to meet a Tom Hateley corner but his effort cleared the cross bar.

Our luck ran out on 30 minutes, a Wilson cross reached Hooper and he had time to take three attempts to control the ball before scuffing a shot into Hollis’s bottom right hand corner.

It was two by half time, Ki had a shot saved by Hollis and the ball broke out wide and when the ball came back in and Samaras had time to pick his spot and side foot the ball home.

Early in the second half it was three when sub Maloney was given too much time to run into the box and hit a shot from 15 yards which left Hollis stranded. The scoring ended on 71 minutes when second sub McCourt ran on to a Samaras flick to shoot in from 15 yards out.

We also made three subs, and ended up with a side that will be unrecognisable to the one on the field at Hampden next week. At best there were three players who finished the game who are likely to start on Saturday.

Let’s hope all the tinkering with the side in recent weeks will pay off next week, and our full strength team will hit the road running and play in the manner we did when we beat them 2-0 in the League.
