Sutton heads for Hearts, and other stories

Striker John Sutton today signed for Hearts making him the first person to confirm his departure from the club this summer.

After spells in Scotland with Raith Rovers, Dundee and St. Mirren Sutton joined Motherwell in August 2008 after a spell at Wycombe Wanderers.

Sutton has scored regularly for Motherwell over his three seasons at the club, bagging 43 goals in 115 appearances.

Motherwell made him the best offer we could but the offer from Hearts obviously proved too much for the Englishman.

I wish him well but I always feel a bit disappointed when any Well player signs for another SPL Club, it smacks of a lack of ambition for me. I would rather they go and test themselves in the bigger pond in England.

On the plus side Steve Jennings has given an indication he could stay thanks to the influence Stuart McCall has had upon him, and we could hear the answer from him by the end of the week.

The club have also offered new deals to reserve keeper Lee Hollis and Stephen Craigan, although the skipper would appear to have a couple of options elsewhere who are offering two years compared to our one year.

Reading between the lines the latest news would seem to indicate we may not see Maurice Ross, Francis Jeffers, Gaving Gunning, Esteban Casagolda and Steve Jones again.
