Not only has his newfound goal scoring ability for Newcastle been massive for him, it has been massive for the club, Newcastle United have finally found the form of a striker who could have cost them a fortune in lost money, instead Michael Owen is starting to live up to the £16M price tag slapped on him by Real Madrid (double what they paid Liverpool in 2004 - a tidy profit in most people's eyes) 3 years ago.
Owen is now coming to the end of his contract - it expires next year, however he seems keen to continue at the club well into next season after backing Kevin Keegan earlier this week to see the club through, he said:
"It's taken a bit of time for the manager to get his ideas across but now we're starting to get it together - and full credit to him for that. To come and play an attacking line-up like he did at Tottenham and in the last couple of games has worked a treat so far. Obviously he's positive. He instils confidence in everyone and now we're reaping the rewards.
Hopefully, now we're coming towards the end of the season we'll keep getting results and then it will be exciting waiting for next season. The manager will add to the squad and it'll be exciting over the summer."
It is nice to see Owen talking about the future and is hopefully a hint he will stay at the club and continue to maintain the form he has found and continue to build upon the fantastic partnerships his has formed with Martins and Viduka.
With Owen playing as he is now, a new contract must be on the cards...
