Match Preview/Stats/Thread: NUFC v Manchester Utd
By Tyne-Talk
March 3 2009
Newcastle United face Manchester United on home turf tomorrow night in the 1st of a series of big games. Newcastle who took a point from Old Trafford on the 1st day of the season need to take something away from the game after finding themselves back within 2 points of the drop zone.
Manchester United travel to the North East having picked up the Carling Cup after a penalty shootout against Tottenham on Sunday, whilst Newcastle host after a dismal 1-0 defeat at Bolton.
Whilst United have lost just 2 games all season and won 5 and drawn just the 1 of their last 6, Newcastle have won just 6 games all season, drawing 2 and losing 3 of their last 6.
Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be available after shaking off a virus, but John O'Shea who was replaced by Vidic on Sunday with 15 minutes of normal time to go, remains a doubt.
Unlike Fergie's fully fit side, Chris Hughton is struggling to manage the injury crisis at Newcastle and continues to be without Michael Owen, Joey Barton, Danny Guthrie and Damian Duff. Nicky Butt has joined that injury list and Kevin Nolan is still seeing out his suspension. There is also no sign of a comeback for Ignacio "nacho" Gonzalez who has been out since September with an Achilles injury, despite rumours he had hoped to be fit for the beginning of March. However, if he does feature in the squad (though unlikely) he is unlikely to start and will almost certainly see the majority of the 90minutes on the bench.
Alan Smith is desperate for pitch time after returning from injury and failing to come off the bench on Sunday but will have to battle it out with Geremi who replaced Butt at the weekend.
Hughton has his pick of strikers with Ameobi, Martins, Viduka and Carroll all available for selection.
Chris Hughton has confirmed he has appointed Steve Harper as Captain for the match, replacing the injured Nicky Butt.

There is NO indication he is fit - even Physioroom.com beleive he has set a return date for 14th MARCH
not tomorrow.
IF and BIG IF he manages to get in the squad the likelihood of him playing is SO small if you truely believe he will participate I would go and put money on it because you will earn a fortune!

That's the lil' possibility of featuring I was talking about.
C'mon the Toon

I think we will lose 3-1 though obviously I would love to Win and take all 3 point - 1 would do
IMO without Nacho it is a sure loss. I mean.. Manchester United is the opponent now, the team of the hour.. CL & PL champ. Just pray he's fit or NU gets murdered.
Any way if we can only see him a couple of minutes, will be very possitive as well.. that means he will probably play the Hulls game grabbing the 3 points you need so bad.
If I ask you why u think the result will be 1-1.. will your reply be something else rather than "because this is how I want it to be"? You need valid fundaments. Most people on here believe mines are not valid, but this hasn't been proved.
There are foundations for the belief of such a score
why dont you join a nacho fansite all you do is bum the player! stop with the cr*p n talk about the team if you dont support the toon then why are you on here!
back to tonights match i think we'll loose but score a goal to end van der sar's record of clean sheets
loose 2 -1
maybe scrap a draw if were lucky
Our team should be fighting for their lives tonight I'm sure they don't want to go down. We may be beaten, but if we are let's hope it was a good scrap.
I just wish it was on TV.
C'mon the Toon

Yeah. Looks like this guy knows what he's talking about.

Now let's see if Nacho can show-up against Hull City and grab the 3 points as I said b4.
