Newcastle United are reported to have had a £6.7million bid for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa accepted by Montpeillier. The 23 year old was initially linked with a move to Newcastle last January. He is now due to fly into Newcastle next week to discuss personal terms.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is club captain at Montpellier who face Marseille at 4pm today in Ligue 1 after being knocked out of the France League Cup in midweek.

can he actually fly into newcastle this time?
Not via london, we have a perfectly good airport, I've used it a lot.

Is it definitely a done deal or has he done one down to another club for more money?

Like the Loic Remy deal, I just can't see this one happening. He started for Montpellier last night when he ws supposedly "on his way to Tyneside" and in any case he'll probably get a better offer from the likes of Oldham or Scunthorpe.

I won't be getting my hopes up too much but when I wrote the article there was no doubt that he would be playing yesterday. I could find nothing to suggest he wouldn't have been.

why is the club now publicising bids we are making for players, the best deals we have done over the last 2 seasons have been announced as the player is arriving at st james'

They are publiscising bids for players they've got no intention of signing purely to give them some excuses when the recriminations set in on 1st February. It's a very old trick. I don't think they were ever serious about even signing Loic Remy, they made a him derisory offer when they knew QPR had already offered him a lot more.

That's exactly why we're bidding just over £600k for Yoann Gouffran...truth be told; it'd be good value but I get the feeling that Bordeaux will be looking for a little more than that!

Who is having a medical?
Yanga-Mbiwa didnt show up yesterday, Gouffran bid was knocked back BUT we have just had a bid for Haidara excepted.

Mbiwa's medical has always been planned for today, he was due to arrive yesterday but couldn't fly to newcastle due to weather and there was issues about him flying to london and travelling up (i would imagine due to the weather but i'm sure people will be thinking it is to keep him away from Arsenal and QPR) and was due to arrive this morning instead!
Hopefully the 2 deals will be anounced tonight with an improved offer for Gouffranover the next couple of days and we've apparently had a bifd accepted for sissoko so come the weekend we could potentially have 4 new players!

He's signed, the young left back is on his way, a fee has been agreed for sissoko and he has said newcastle are the only team he wants to move to and we have agreed a fee for gouffran and there hasn't been an announcement about colo leaving so things are looking up!

Apparently Mbiwa is a cd who can play anywhere in the back four. Hopefully this means Williamson can sit on the bench.

chief sports writer for leparisien was interviewed earlier and said Mbiwa is a commanding centre back who is rarely beaten in the air, has pace to spare, can tackle, likes to play the ball out of defence and likes to command the players on the pitch hence the reason why he's the club captain!
He can play anywhere across the back 4,as a sweeper, sitting in front of a back for or in the centre of midfield(he played here against Arsenal earlier in the season) and is comfortable in any of these positions!
The reporter went on to say that if we manage to sign him its an amazing tranfser for nufc!
