Krul Has Surgery But Aims For First Game Of The Season

Newcastle United goal keeper Tim Krul has undergone surgery on his shoulder and will now be out for much of pre season. However, he is hopeful that he can take part in the opening game of the 2013/14 season on August 17th. He told the official website, nufc.co.uk;

"I've had the operation and it went well but unfortunately it does mean I'm going to be out for three months. That's my season over, of course, and it's just been one of those seasons for me - I've had a couple of injuries which have interrupted it and that's been a new experience for me.

 It's hard because I'm not the best at having to watch the lads, especially in the position we found ourselves in, but hopefully I should be back for the first week of pre-season.

Obviously there's never a good time to get injured but I guess it could have been worse as I will have the whole summer to recover."

Talking about the International games he will miss he added;

"There are a couple of games out in the Far East which I'll probably now miss, but I'm just concentrating on getting fit for Newcastle now.

My aim is to come back better than ever for next season and to have another season like last year, when I didn't miss a single game in the Premier League."

elliot could do with the practise so its not too bad although Krul has had a few injuries so it would be good to offer Harper a new 1 year deal as cover

i can see why we are letting Harper leave, he's 38 and probably on a decent wage but after watching him on Sunday i think we should be keeping him, he's better than Elliot and had elliot played against Arsenal i think we would have conceded more than 1!

If the reason we are letting him leave is to get a big wage off the bill surely we could have got him on a basic wage with bonuses when he plays.

Sounds like a decent plan. Much better than not having an established keeper on the bench.
