Newcastle United have joined the chase for Southampton goalkeeper Antti Niemi - his agent has confirmed. Manchester United and Arsenal are also interested in the goalkeeper, who has just returned from injury at the Saints.

Southampton are not doing too well in the Premiership, and it is believed that they will be willing to cash in on the 'keeper.

Shay Given has been linked with a move away from St James' Park, although Graeme Souness insists that the Magpies' number one is going nowhere.

Niemi’s agent Richard Cody confirmed: "This time the interest is real not just speculation. Manchester United, Arsenal and this third club are interested in him."

On the latest club to be interested (Newcastle), Cody added: "It's Newcastle, but I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool come after Antti because they need a new keeper."
