Jebediahs weekday roundup of all the stories and rumours from the days tabloids involving Newcastle United

Starting with The Sun, something which took longer than I expected is a parting shot at Graeme Souness from Laurent Robert. Included in some of the things he said are "He's just a child" and "If he keeps going the way he is, he will get fired and he'll deserve it". The news will not come as any surprise to Newcastle fans, as the outspoken winger is renound for this sort of behaviour.

The Mirror has reported that Freddy Shepherd will block any potential move for Jermaine Jenas. Recently Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the 22 year old midfielder, however Shepherd appears to have quickly scuppered the move. He also quashed reports that Tottenham have already had a bid rebuffed, saying "Even if they did (bid) they would be wasting their time." It seems unlikely that Souness would be at all interested in selling the England midfielder, as he has already spoken highly of him, and made him captain in Shearers absence last season.

The Star carries the same story regarding the rumoured sale of Jenas. Furthermore, the it is thought that the reason that the Emre deal is dragging on is that the clubs are yet to agree a fee, with Inter wanting £4.5m and Newcastle wanting to pay just £3m for the Turkish midfielder.

Finally, the only story in The Mail of relevance is news that alleged Toon target Michael Owen has been house-hunting in London, with the paper reporting a move to Chelsea could well be on the cards. With Chelsea recently missing out on Andriy Shevchenko and being told they will not get Adriano, the club have recalled Crespo from Italy and it would not surprise me if their is substance in this Owen link.
