Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has revealed that his summer signing, Scott Parker, will not be rushed back into action.

Parker suffered from an ankle injury last season, and Souness will not play him in the Inter-Toto cup to make sure Parker is fit for the Premiership season.

Souness said:

"Scott Parker won't be available”

"I have decided to rest him in the Intertoto Cup and give him as much time to recover as possible.

"The most important thing for us this year is The Premiership his year, that is the be all and end all."

"We don't know much about Dubnica, but we will have to deal with that.”

"We have had them watched twice now and know this will be a really difficult game.
