Former Leeds United midfielder Lee Bowyer has insisted that he does not want to leave St James' Park, despite holding talks with other clubs this summer.

LEE BOWYER: "It hasn't been the best of summers for me if I'm honest, it's been very up and down.

"It isn't good when a player is told by his club that he has permission to speak to another club, and you do wonder whether or not you are wanted.

"I have been linked with moves here, there and everywhere. I spoke with Birmingham and Charlton, but at the end of the day I didn't want to move away from this club.

"I'm settled here now, and as I said I don't want to move away. I don't feel as if I have anything to prove here, and I'm relishing the competition for places."
